Embassy of Sri Lanka discusses establishment of Digital Library of Marine Science and Technology in Sri Lanka with Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST)

On 13th February 2020, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, Dr. A. Saj U. Mendis, met with Senior Professor Kim Choon-Sun of Inha University and former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Korea and former President of Incheon Port Authority; Principal Research Scientist of KIOST Prof. Kyoungrean Kim and Principal Special Researcher of KIOST Prof. Hyun Yeong Kim. Dr. Mendis was associated with the Head of Chancery, Ms. Sasanga Nikapitiya.

 

The KIOST is a well recognized Ocean Science and Technology Universities in the world and started collaboration with National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lanka in 2016 under the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of Marine Science and Technology. Under this cooperation, the KIOST is assisting NARA to generate ocean science and technology analytical capacity and innovations for poverty alleviation and promoting sustainable and inclusive development in oceanic fishery and marine-culture sector, amongst others. A project has been proposed to implement by KIOST with collaboration with NARA to establish a Digital Library of Marine Science and Technology in Sri Lanka under the Korea Official Development Assistance (ODA). The Digital Library has proposed to be established in NARA and an establishment of this nature would be most beneficial for the development and capacity building of marine science and technology in Sri Lanka.
