Sri Lankan community in South Korea meet with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemchandra
During an official visit to the Republic of Korea, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Hon. Arun Hemchandra visited the Korea - Sri Lanka Mahaviharaya in Pyongteak on 8th June 2025.
During the visit, the Hon. Deputy Minister met with the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Thalgamuwe Dhammakitti thero, resident monks and Sri Lankan and Korean devotees visiting the temple. He also toured the temple premises, which has been constructed according to Sri Lankan tradition, including a flourishing bodhi tree.
The Deputy Minister also utilised this opportunity to meet with several Sri Lankans residing and working in South Korea and held discussions regarding the issues they faced. The Deputy Minister thanked the Sri Lankan migrant worker community in South Korea for their hard work and the valuable contribution they make to their motherland and assured the government’s support to address the issues they face.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister also met with the Korean Buddhist clergy from the region. He was accompanied on the visit by Savitri Panabokke, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea and officials from the Embassy in Seoul.
