The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul, Republic of Korea (RoK) organized an information sharing webinar and business networking session on Boat building industry in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) & the Korea Medium Small Shipbuilding Industry Cooperative (KOMSSIC) on 25th February,2021. The aim of the webinar was to share the information on Sri Lankan boat and shipbuilding industry and its capabilities to the Korean boat industry and also to connect potential Korean importers, manufacturers and traders with the Sri Lankan exporters.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Korea, Dr. A Saj U. Mendis, made opening remarks at the online event highlighting the strengths of Sri Lankan boat building industry and its potentials to become the hub for boat manufacturing in the Asian region due to its strategic location, highly trainable workforce and the labour cost advantage.
Mr. Bae Chui-nam, the Executive Director, Korea Medium Small Shipbuilding Industry Cooperative (KOMSSIC), expressed the keen interests of the Korean boat and shipbuilding companies to engage with Sri Lankan companies to explore the opportunities in the boat building industry between the two countries during his remarks. A detailed presentation on Sri Lankan Boatbuilding industry and the areas of potential collaboration was delivered by Mr. Gamini Herath, Managing Director, BTI (Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute) during the virtual meeting, which was followed by a Q & A session.
More than twenty participants from the boat & shipbuilding industry, mostly from the RoK, participated at the webinar with a view to obtain first-hand information on Boat and shipbuilding sector and to seek business opportunities.
